The Courtside (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website thecourtside.eu (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to visitors, newsletter subscribers, and customers of the Site.

What personal data we collect

When you place an order: name, billing and shipping address, email address, phone number, and order details (products purchased, amounts, order history). Payment card or payment account details are collected and processed directly by our payment providers (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, MB WAY, PayPal) — we do not store your full card details on our servers.

When you contact us: the name, email address, and message content you submit through our contact form.

When you subscribe to our newsletter: your email address, and optionally your name, for the purpose of sending product updates and offers.

When you create an account: the account details you provide (name, email, password — stored securely and never in plain text) and your order history.

Automatically, when you browse the Site: IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and referral source, collected via cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies section below).

 

How we use your data

We use your personal data to: process and fulfil your orders, including shipping and customer support; communicate with you about your order, account, or enquiries; send you marketing emails if you have opted in, with an unsubscribe option in every email; understand how visitors use the Site, in order to improve it; detect and prevent fraud and abuse; comply with our legal and tax obligations.

The legal bases we rely on are: performance of a contract (processing your order), consent (marketing emails, non-essential cookies), legitimate interest (site analytics, fraud prevention), and legal obligation (accounting and tax records).

 

Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies for: strictly necessary functions (cart, checkout, login) that cannot be switched off; preferences (remembering your settings); statistics (understanding site usage anonymously or pseudonymously); and marketing (personalising ads and measuring their performance).

Third parties we share data with

We share personal data only with service providers who need it to help us run the Site and fulfil your orders, including: payment processors (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, MB WAY, PayPal) to process payments securely; shipping and logistics partners, to deliver your order; our hosting provider (Hostinger), which stores the Site’s data on its servers; Google (Analytics, Ads, Tag Manager, Search Console), to understand site traffic and measure advertising performance; our email/newsletter service provider, to send the communications you’ve opted into.

These providers are only permitted to use your data to provide services to us, not for their own purposes, except where required by law.

 

International data transfers

Some of our service providers (including Google) may process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), particularly in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses to protect your data.

 

How long we retain your data

We keep order and invoice records for as long as required by applicable tax and commercial law 5 years in Portugal. Newsletter subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve your enquiry, and no longer than 6 months.

 

Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request erasure of your data (“right to be forgotten”), subject to our legal retention obligations; object to or restrict certain processing, including marketing; request a portable copy of your data; withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent; lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

Children’s privacy

The Site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

 

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data, including secure (HTTPS) connections and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

 

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
